Gucci Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – Milan Fashion Week

Fashion

The Gucci fall/winter 2015-2016 collection was presented today, with the new creative director for the label Alessandro Michele showing off his debut line on the Milan Fashion Week runway. It was a pretty good start according to fans and critics alike and we couldn’t agree more, particularly after being shocked with the first piece showing off barely veiled nipples seen through a sheer white blouse with feathers on the collar and long sleeves, tucked into the loveliest of pleated red midi skirts, belted with a Gucci band. Those sandals were very much out of place though and the feel was a strange one, despite having us fall in love with that skirt immediately.

Gucci, that lovely brand that every young teenager dreams of owning and every adult with the means to afford it flaunts with ease. It is that Italian fashion house founded in 1921 owned today by Kering that puts on those shows that get the blood pumping and the imagination reeling. It has reached a point of success that even the founder, Guccio Gucci, may never have imagined in his lifetime, taking the 41st position in Intrabrand’s “Top Global 100 Brands” chart and in 2013 being listed as the 38th most valuable brand by Forbes.

There was something very chic and nerdy about the whole Gucci fall/winter 2015-2016 collection, with so many of the models having donned berets and large square framed glasses, the skirts swishing around their legs at midi levels above and below the knees. Pompoms on gladiator laced ballerina flats definitely did the trick when it came to the footwear here, certainly embodying the Gucci namesake. Black fur lines moccasins were equally intriguing, though the hairy pieces worn with the long frilly dress in the floral printed chiffon had us wondering about the imagination behind it. It was certainly nice to see the deep plunging necklines appear here as well though, as some of the designers on the Milan Fashion Week catwalk have refrained from following the trends.

It seems that the women are to go braless these coming seasons, though we don’t know who in their right mind would opt for the black sheer lace mini dress with the nude panties, having us think about a Gothic goddess with the fringed bangs and medium length black hair, complete with those nerdy glasses and gladiator ballerina flats. Following these looks were the more masculine relaxed fit trousers with the button down shirts before we got into more funky fashions. The red dress with the frilled layers was intriguing enough, what with the flats and all, and we might just end up picking up those red versions as well as the black because they do look divine, we might even invest in one of those lovely spaghetti strapped midi dresses with the translucent pleated chiffon fabric in floral print, just because the silhouettes of those are beyond fabulous. And if we really want a party dress that will make everyone talk, we’ll pick the black number with the pretty bird swooping down and taking the neckline to the abdomen with it. While we don’t understand the fascination with the bare chest and the semi-nude body, we certainly find some of the more masculine pieces to be quite intriguing and worth wearing out in the coming fall and winter seasons.

Monique Lhuillier Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week

Fashion

The pieces created by Monique Lhuillier are ageless, though the Monique Lhuillier fall/winter 2015-2016 collection presented on the New York Fashion Week runway is far away from the tulles and the princess skirts we are so used to seeing. Instead, we are treated the exactly the opposite but much more appealing designs fit for the modern woman. The curves are hugged closely, the body is sheathed in a slinky dress and it’s all a bit breathtaking from this point. According to the designer herself, “It’s all about fluidity… There’s no corsetry at all this season.” At this point, it is literally all about liberating the woman, while still keeping the garment close to the body. While so many designers had turned to the ‘70s for inspirations, Lhullier preferred to trek back to the roaring ‘20s, with a touch of ‘70s glam rock spicing things up along the way. Draped silk charmeuse dresses in teal, amethyst and saffron appear before our eyes, while the black tights are jewelled and the bodysuits star-embroidered, layered under tailored coats. Kate Moss was the muse for this season so it all made sense to us at the end. Of course, or else there seemed to be a disconnect across the collection otherwise.

Red carpet dresses and bridal gowns are her specialty. Not only that but she is also the proud owner of a couture fashion house in Los Angeles, California. She is Monique Lhuillier, the 43-year-old Vietnam-born Filipino fashion designer of mixed French and Spanish descent. It is no wonder that fashion runs through the blood coursing through her veins. Her career began with her bridal collection back in 1996, of which Britney Spears helped herself later on, after which she branched into red carpet dresses for Allison Janney and Jamie-Lynn DiScala. Today, the Monique Lhuillier collections include ready-to-wear lines, evening gowns, bridal gowns, bridesmaids dresses, linens, tablewear, fine paper and home fragrances. Her popularity has also grown with the stars, making customers out of celebrity women such as Kristen Stewart, Hilary Swank, Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift, Ginnifer Goodwin, and so many more.

The Monique Lhuillier fall/winter 2015-2016 collection opened with a gorgeous plum colored lacy embroidered high neck midi hem dress with long sleeves and a major emphasis on length. The silver shoes with the ankle straps had us falling in love with the look from the start, while we suddenly were jolted from the more sombre hues when the blue version appears, the neckline, shoulders and arms covered in the embroidery, while the rest of the body was sheathed in a psychedelic blue, green and black floral abstract patterning that really drew our attentions. The purple version of the same dress had us suddenly wishing we had a date at an expensive restaurant to wear this to tonight. Along with a few other designers, it appears that pockets in dresses have begun to appear as well, the first of which was seen at the Elie Saab Couture show back in January during Paris Fashion Week.

All in all, we do see many of the 2015 trends appear in this collection, including the side cut-outs, the slit up the thighs, the floral patterning and the high neckline; we see mostly midi skirts before getting into the evening gowns, while also looking at seep V plunges, mesh coverings and see-through blouses. It is a great line-up and we love every single piece that was brought out onto the catwalk.

Cushnie et Ochs Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week

Fashion

During the Cushnie et Ochs fall/winter 2015-2016 collection showing on the New York Fashion Week runway a few hours ago, it was clear that an even stronger element of elegance had been injected into the brand’s upcoming seasons. The sex appeal it exuded was simply outstanding, perhaps even worthy of the expression to die for, in its entirety. Sheaths of emerald fell below the knees, while terra cotta viscose knits entered the line-up. A lovely lilac cashmere coat was worn down the catwalk, with matching high waist pants and a silk and cashmere honeycomb pullover also making the cut. There were lots of slits, plunging necklines to below the bust and see-through mesh that filled up the scene and messed with our senses. The attitude and the sizzle known to Cushnie et Ochs was definitely there full-throttle and we couldn’t tear our eyes from the incredibly beautiful pieces paraded before us.

Cushnie et Ochs Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection - New York Fashion Week

It was back in 2008 that the Cushnie et Ochs brand was founded by the collective efforts of Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs. It was meant to seamlessly combine the bold sensuality of a woman with the raw feminine attitude that is both understated and particularly modern, the confident woman with the luxurious individuality. The sense of energy that is both alluring and positively intriguing has its hold on each of us as we stare at the designs that celebrate the woman’s silhouette and complement the figure perfectly. Bold lines and equally bold colors allow for a woman to shine instead of hiding herself under layers of garment that do little to flatter her as a whole. Awards have been gained over the years for this ability to really cater to the modern woman and meet her aesthetic needs, the brand’s popularity attested to through the presence of the label in over 100 stores.

Perhaps the best part of the Cushnie et Ochs fall/winter 2015-2016 collection show was seeing it open with a curvaceous but stunning model, Crystal Renn, taking to the runway in a signature skin-tight piece in dirty prink coloring, created with power crepe and mesh with lots of love. Body-con is not just for the stick thin or those with the Amazon Queen bodies out there, but for the real woman, the one with the curves, the thighs, the hips and the thicker waist. It matters not that the calves are fuller or that there’s a thickness to your arms. On the contrary, you can look perfect just the way you are. It’s not only a fashion statement made here, but a cultural one as well, defying the norms and daring the world to disagree with the fact that a woman with a size 10 or 12 body can look mesmerizingly attractive in a tight, revealing dress.

There are barely any mini hems across this line and for that we are extremely happy. You can be sexy without showing mile long legs, and if you do, you can use high cut slits along the side that really bring the focus to the thigh underneath. The sheath dresses are gorgeous beyond belief, falling just above, on or just below the knees to elongate the figure as much as possible. The fully body jumpsuits with the extreme deep V plunges at the neckline have us believing that our chests are definitely worth revealing thus, though the lack of bra might be a problem for some. The mesh appears across the line-up, across the collar or the abdomen, in strange cut intervals and anywhere needed. There are cropped designs among the collection as well, paying their respect to the 2015 trending looks.

Zimmermann Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week

Fashion

“Stunning”… “Incredible!”… “The best one yet!!”… These are some of the comments by fans in response to the Zimmermannfall/winter 2015-2016 collection presented on the New York Fashion Weekrunway yesterday. It is the same reaction we have when we look at these delectable designs that only this iconic Australian bran can create. Staying true to its vision of creating only the best that represent sophisticated femininity, clever color combinations and delicate original prints, we are given 36 outfits that utilize the color palette of marsala, flowing skirts and sheer tunics. She look at keyhole plunges at the chest and tight neck high collars. We watch the color scheme change from white to camel and down to black, before moving into the blues and finally the Pantone color of the year, marsala.

Zimmermann Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection - New York Fashion Week

Founded back in 1991, the Zimmermann sisters’ brand certainly hiked uphill quickly enough, gaining a fan base that allows one to spot one of their swimsuit or dress designs from a mile away. The smart, sartorially savvy woman is the target market, what with her eye for quality workmanship and fabric use. It is always nice to see siblings create a fashion brand together and this is one such success story. The ready to wear collection has been a constant reminder of Australian fashions at the New York Fashion Week each season since they entered the fashion world with aplomb. Features in magazines such as Vogue, Marie Claire, Elle, W, Glamour, and Harper’s Bazaar have given the Zimmermann label the mass exposure required to catapult them into stardom.

The Zimmermann fall/winter 2015-2016 collection includes full length dresses, long tunics with legs clad in tights, high waist trousers in orange hued coloring, lightweight fabrics and deep V plunges to below the bust; it includes lacy pants and lots of belts, while most garments feature see-through embroidery in strategic spots to create an air of mystery while still focusing on the beauty of each look. Bright aqua cropped pants appear underneath gorgeous darker blue hued jackets and cowl neck knit sweaters. Sweaters in white lace also make an appearance, bringing a slightly Victorian feel to the modern cuts to the leather tunic dresses. Perhaps one of our favorites is the lacy dress with embroidered see-through cinched waist and the plunge of the neckline down to the abdomen, completed with black tights and lace-up black shoes, along with black handbag and brimmed hat over the head. The black and white look is very much in for the year and Zimmermann certainly doesn’t hesitate to include the gorgeous color-blocking designs in the collection.

Perhaps one of the most interesting looks was the final piece of the day, wherein a lovely model walks out in a marsala colored dress, with a high turtleneck look, long sleeves and ankle-length skirt. The sexy aspects included the double slits up the thighs that were covered up by black tights, as well as the plunging keyhole cut that showed off the inner parts of the breasts and down to the top of the abdomen. The lace embroidery gave a distinct olden feel to the whole look, while still appearing as modern as possible. That is certainly one dress fit for this Valentine’s Day weekend.

Polo By Ralph Lauren Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection

Fashion

The Polo by Ralph Lauren fall/winter 2015-2016 collection brings diversity and a casual style in an effortless manner. We witness a range of comfy and chic pieces with the peculiar preppy attitude, which are so easy to mix and match into statement-making looks. From cozy and stylish outerwear pieces to everyday dresses, tops and pants, there is everything one needs to see the upcoming cold days in a cool style. We have some gorgeous accessory pieces as well, particularly iconic Ralph Lauren hats, spacious handbags, printed scarves and platform shoes in suede. With his new youthful collection, the American designer manages to cater to the cold season fashion needs of women with different tastes, preferences and occupations.

Polo By Ralph Lauren Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection

The debut line of the Polo branch of the fashion house was launched only last season and with the new collection we can already see its rapid development. Diversity is the best word to describe the Polo by Ralph Lauren fall/winter 2015-2016 collection, which brings both neutral and bright colors, long and short lengths, preppy and classic styles. Talking about the former, we should mention the fall-ready shades of black, dark green, brown, cream, khaki and wine red, which are mixed with pops of neon lemon, bright fuchsia and orange. In addition to the monochrome looks playing with interesting textures, we also see lots of plaid, touches of camouflage and ethnic vibes, little floral patterns and elegant pinstripe motifs used for a number of office-ready pieces, like the perfectly tailored boyish pants with suspenders or the pantsuit with a cool vest.

The collection opens with a darker mood, where checkered coats, cozy knits and black pieces are the protagonists. We see the comeback of black leggings for the new season, which are matched with skirts cut at different lengths to give warmth and a youthful vibe to the looks. Immediately after this range of pieces, we discover the bright pops of neon colors used to jazz up the brown suede and leather looks, as well as the monochrome black designs. Apparently, leather and suede are huge for the upcoming season according to the Polo collection of Ralph Lauren, used both for the pants and skirts, as well as the chic footwear styles and bags.

After a couple of black and white boy-meets-girl tuxedo dressing, the collection goes cozy and monochrome bringing head-to-to cream looks featuring hand-knits, suede and lots of fringing. We also love the warm shearling coats and the suede boots with fringe details, as well as the knitted beanies and chunky scarves that will definitely protect us against the harsh cold weather at the same time adding to the chic of the outfits. The finale of the collection is again in black tones, where we can spot some tiny floral patterns used for two short-sleeved dresses.

If not the gorgeous trends and styles available, then the wearability factor is one big reason why the Polo by Ralph Lauren fall/winter 2015-2016 collection is going to be a huge success in the upcoming cold months.

RED Valentino Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week

Fashion

Inspired by Kurt Cobain, the REDValentino fall/winter 2015-2016 collection brought a romantic and dreamy atmosphere to the first day of New York Fashion Week fall 2015 with its princess-worthy dresses, cute patterns and enchanting retro style imprinted on every single design available in the lineup. As always, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli have managed to take us to the imaginary world of fairy-tales with their talent of injecting so much innocence and whimsical allure to their one-of-a-kind creations. The big diversity of styles, colors and the mind-blowing tiny details that add to the cuteness overload are some of the aspects of the new RED Valentino line that will instantly have you infatuated with these pieces!

RED Valentino Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection - New York Fashion Week

Fall is extremely spring-y and colorful for the RED Valentino girls this year, as instead of opting for chunky knits and subdued colors, she gives preference to flirty little dresses and bright floral prints. Exactly this way debuts the collection bringing an entire garden of pretty flowers appearing on a black background mostly. To break the summer overdose, the designers have teamed floral printed dresses with grunge-style plaid shirts, coming in grass green and black, or red and black tones. Although at first sight this may seem a dangerous combination for you, it does lead to unique and fresh looks, where contrast is the main focus. Whether it’s a floral printed maxi dress or a combo of a see-through black shirt and a mini skirt, topping the look with a plaid shirt you’ll instantly inject a unique vibe and youthfulness to your looks.

Checkered prints start to make an appearance more occasionally as the collection develops and we get introduced to such lovely looks as the combo of a green checkered skirt worn with a lovely short cape-coat featuring the same colors and the same material, which is topping a plaid green-and-black shirt with a lovely bow detail on the neck. There are also monochrome checkered looks using black and white colors, from shirts with bow details on the part of the neck to mini dresses, skirts and even coats with faux fur collars.

Although a big part of the RED Valentino fall/winter 2015-2016 collection is dedicated to floral and checkered prints and bright colors, there are also more monochromatic looks for those, who are more into a simplistic style. Think simple black flared mini skirts worn with black-and-white striped shirts, a sleeveless black jumpsuit, a tweed skirt suit, and an office-ready gray suit featuring a pair of trendy culottes. The unique retro silhouettes used only enhance the dolly look of these outfits.

Further, we are treated to an array of mind-blowing party and cocktail dresses featuring lovely muted colors and unexpected circus prints (think clowns and acrobats), embroidery and appliqués, which also adorn the outerwear pieces topping the looks. So forget about the traditional plaid, leopard and floral patterns (which still look uber-imaginative in the collection) and go for statement-making circus themes to stand out in the crowd.

Other big trends present throughout the collection are the mohair cardigans, the Mongolian lambskin little coats and vests, the fur jackets and Seventies style jeans. The retro-style handbags available in different shapes, shades and sizes and the platform suede heels are must-have accessories to complete these absolutely bedazzling clothing pieces. Agree picking just one or two pieces from this marvelous collection is going to be a really hard task!
